RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (March 4, 2014) — Everyone at Ruidoso Downs wishes to express a sincere thank you to all the firefighters and other first responders who put out a brush fire near the track on Saturday.
“We all know the great danger of wildfire in our area, especially when we are in the windy season,” said Ruidoso Downs’ general manager Shaun Hubbard. “The speed of the response to this fire was truly exceptional.”
In April, 2011, the White Fire burned up to the track’s parking lot and threatened structures. The only damage at Ruidoso Downs was to the corner of one barn.
“We have repeatedly seen the bravery of the men and women who battle these very dangerous wildfires. We have watched them in the national forest adjoining Ruidoso Downs, facing great danger and successfully battling fires. Again, our thanks can never be overstated,” said Hubbard.
“We join the many people who encourage everyone to do everything they can to minimize the risk of wildfire. Do it for these responders who risk their lives. We could be facing a grave fire season.”
Ruidoso Downs is currently preparing for the summer racing season at begins on May 22.
