Big Biz Perry Heads Three Adequan Derby Trials Friday

Amanda Greer

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 6, 2014) – Jose Espinosa’s Big Biz Perry, winner of the 2013 Grade 1, $1,075,000 Heritage Place Futurity, makes his 2014 debut when he heads the three trials to the Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge on Friday (June 13) at Ruidoso Downs.

The horses with the three-fastest times return for the 400-yard Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge on June 28.

First post time is 1 p.m. with the trials running as the first three races. There is always free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso Downs.

Big Biz Perry became one of the leading members of the juvenile division last year when he won four of seven starts and earned $424,850. The majority of that bankroll came when he prevailed by a head at nearly 30-1 odds to win the Heritage Place Futurity, the premier futurity at Remington Park every spring. He raced the 350 yards in a fast :17.310.

A $20,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, Big Biz Perry concluded his two-year-old season by qualifying to the Grade 1, $1 million Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park. He had trouble at the start and was never a threat.

Big Biz Perry won his only start at Ruidoso Downs when he scored by one-half length in his All American Futurity trial at 2-5 odds, however his time was not fast enough to qualify for the sport’s premier futurity.

Trainer Blane Wood will have Ricky Ramirez ride Big Biz Perry when he starts from the 10th post position in the third trial.

Paul Jones and Chad Richard’s homebred Make A Wish For Me makes his Ruidoso Downs debut in the first trial after making each of his seven starts at Los Alamitos. He has three wins and a pair of second-place finishes with his most important win coming in the $44,000 John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge. The Brookstone Bay-sired gelding won by a nose as the 19-10 favorite.

Cody Jensen gets the riding assignment of Make A Wish For Me when he starts from the second post position.
