RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (April 30, 2014) — Santa Anita Derby winner California Chrome has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby and full simulcast wagering will be available at Ruidoso Downs.

The action starts early on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs with Billy’s Race Book opening at 9 a.m. for breakfast and to accommodate the full card from Churchill Downs and all the major tracks throughout North America. The All American Turf Club will be open for the first time in 2014 on Derby Day. There will be a full buffet starting at 11 a.m. and full wagering available.

There is also full-card simulcasting on Friday from Churchill Downs featuring the Kentucky Oaks, the filly counterpart to the Kentucky Derby. There will be a special wager to select the winner of the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby. Wagering on Saturday’s program will be available on Friday at Ruidoso Downs.

California Chrome earned Kentucky Derby favoritism after impressively winning the Santa Anita Derby and the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Southern California. The Art Sherman-trained colt is stabled at Los Alamitos Race Course. The leading quarter horse track recently expanded to a one-mile oval to accommodate leading thoroughbreds and will have two thoroughbred meets this year. Quarter horse racing is offered throughout the year at Los Alamitos.

California Chrome drew the fifth post position and will have Victor Espinoza aboard.

The fun at Ruidoso Downs on Derby Day is not limited to the wagering. Also offered is Billy’s Derby Dash For Cash, a Second Chance Kentucky Derby Drawing, a best hat contest and the first leg of Billy’s $500 Bounce Back contest.

The $500 Billy’s Derby Dash For Cash provides the opportunity to pick the Kentucky Derby winner. Visit the promotions desk outside the casino to receive drawing tickets. Entries close at post time and you must be present to win.

The Second Chance Kentucky Derby Drawing is another chance to win $500. Just simply exchange a losing Kentucky Derby mutual ticket at the drawing desk. The winning ticket will be drawn at the promotions desk and winner paid $500. You must be present to win.

The Kentucky Derby has a proud tradition of unique high-fashion women’s hats. Judging will begin at 2 p.m. with the winner receiving $100. Second place is worth $50 the third-place pays $25.

Billy’s $500 Bounce Back contest rewards fans who attend each of the three Triple Crown races: the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes (May 17) and the Belmont Stakes (June 7). Just get your coupon stamped while attending each race and become eligible for a $500 prize following the Belmont Stakes.
