RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 14, 2014) – Trainer Todd Fincher has the numbers in the $175,000 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity with five entrants and Fine Loom Handicap winner Safe Trip shoots for his third-straight win in the $20,000 Tricky Dust on Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.
First post time is 1 p.m. with the 870-yard Tricky Dust running as the ninth race and the five-furlong Mountain Top Futurity for New Mexico-breds following as the 10th and final race on the program.
Leading the Fincher contingent in the Mountain Top are Diabolical Dame and Malibu Rain – winners of two of the three trials – and Copper Top Futurity Colt and Gelding Division winner Raider Red.
Owned by Joe Dee Brooks, Scott Bryant and Derrol Hubbard; Diabolical Dame has won two of three starts with her only defeat a second-place finish in the Copper Top Futurity Filly Division. The top three finishers in each trial qualified for the Mountain Top Futurity with Brad King and Dale Taylor’s Raider Red finished a qualifying third after winning the Copper Top Futurity Colt and Gelding Division. He made a three-wide move in the Copper Top and went on to win by three lengths.
Roman Chapa picks up the mount on Raider Red with the second post position.
In the Tricky Dust, MCM Racing, LLC’s Safe Trip is one of two thoroughbreds facing six quarter horses.
Safe Trip blew by his rivals with a gutsymove in the 870-yard Fine Loom at 870 yards on May 24. He rallied through a hole between rivals in the stretch to win by an expanding two lengths. The seven-year-old gelding by Tale Of The Cat won a $35,000 race over 1,000 yards at Sunland Park two starts ago.
