Fincher Takes Two of Three Trials To Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity

Amanda Greer

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (June 6, 2014) – Trainer Todd Fincher showed the depth of his two-year-old division when he won two of three trials and qualified five horses to the $155,974 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity on Friday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

The top-three finishers in each of the five-furlong trials, plus the winner of a shake from among the fourth-place horses, qualify for the Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity on June 21.

Fincher swept the top-three spots in the third trial with Diabolical Dame, Lux, and Raider Red.

Diabolical Dame, second in the Copper Top Futurity Filly Division at Sunland Park, pushed the pace and held a narrow lead before stretching her advantage to one-half length at the finish. It was her second win from three starts for owners Joe Dee Brooks, Scott Bryant and Derrol Hubbard.

Owned by Brooks, Bryant and Dale Taylor; Malibu Rain won the first trial for Fincher. The Devon Lane gelding challenged for the lead rounding the turn and then pulled out to the four-length win as the 7-10 favorite. He was timed in :58.54.

Malibu Rain made his second start after winning his maiden at first asking. He won by one-half length in April at Sunland Park.

Fincher also sent out Roll On Raider Red to qualifying second-place run in the second trial.
