PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC’s undefeated champion and All American Futurity winner Jess Good Candy worked 220 yards in :10.36 on July 18 at Ruidoso Downs.
Jess Good Candy is preparing for the trials to the Grade 1, $2.5.million (est.) All American Derby on August 21. He may have another work before the trials.
“He went pretty good,” said regular rider Ivan Carnero, who was aboard for the drill. “I didn’t ask much; he has to go again in a couple of weeks. He was trying, but I just got ahold of him.
“He knows he’s a monster. He knows what he is and he likes to go out there and show off.”
The Clint Crawford-trained Jess Good Candy has earned $2,012,303 and was honored as the 2015 champion two-year-old and champion two-year-old colt. He earned his championships with four wins from four starts last year, capped by his victory in the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity.
Bred by Carl Pevehouse, Jess Good Candy has kept his unblemished record intact this year. He prepared for his Ruidoso Downs’ campaign at Remington Park this spring and won the Mr Master Bug Stakes.
The son of Good Reason SA came to Ruidoso Downs and qualified for the Grade 1, $1,040,000 Ruidoso Derby and dominated his rivals in the derby finals by one-and-three-quarter lengths as the 3-5 favorite. His connections passed on the Grade 1, $1,224,488 Rainbow Derby to concentrate on the All American Derby trials.
