Jess Good Candy Works In Prep For Ruidoso Derby Trials

Ty Wyant

PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC’s champion Jess Good Candy worked 220 yards from a flat-footed start in :11.06 while facing a stiff headwind on Monday morning at Ruidoso Downs.

Clockers said it was an easy work and he was well in hand.

Jess Good Candy is expected to start in the trials to the Grade 1, $1 million (est.) Ruidoso Derby on May 29. The Ruidoso Downs’ season starts on May 27 with the first of two days of Ruidoso Futurity trials.

Trained by Clint Crawford, Jess Good Candy prepared for his Ruidoso Downs’ derby campaign with a win in the Mr Master Bug Stakes at Remington Park on April 24. That raised his career record to five wins from five starts.

Jess Good Candy earned the 2015 champion two-year-old and champion two-year-old colt honors with four wins, capped by a neck win in the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity. The large, powerful colt has earned $1,561,078 with $1,500,000 of that total coming with his All American Futurity score.

The ultimate goal this summer for Jess Good Candy is the Grade 1, $2.5 million (est.) All American Derby on Labor Day weekend.
