RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (May 23, 2014) – Debra and Joseph Meridyth’s New Mexican Spring Futurity winner Winning Merlot returns to head the 10 trials to the $340,654 Mountain Top Futurity to be held at Ruidoso Downs on Friday, May 30.

The Mountain Top Futurity trials for New Mexico-breds comprise the entire card. First post time is 1 p.m. with free parking and free general admission.

The horses with the 10-fastest times from the 350-yard trials qualify to race in the Mountain Top Futurity on June 14.

Winning Merlot raced to a one-half length win in the $212,450 New Mexican Spring Futurity in her most recent start for trainer Jackie Riddle. The Winners Version filly accelerated through the 300 yards in :15.000 to score at nearly 7-1 odds. She finished second in her New Mexican Spring Futurity trial and then was awarded the victory through disqualification.

Regular rider Francisco Calderon is aboard Winning Merlot with the ninth post position in the sixth trial.

Gary Thompson’s Dungarees Version was second to Winning Merlot in the Spring Futurity and returns in the eighth trial. The Emilio Cadena III-trained gelding won his first two outs, capped by his three-quarter-length win in his Spring Futurity trial.

Esgar Ramirez rides Dungarees Version with the third post position.

Dungarees Six, also owned by Thompson and trained by Cadena III, comes off a narrow head win over That Blazin Belle in the $45,225 New Mexican Spring Fling. Dungarees Six made a late charge to get the win in :15.144 for the 300 yards. She won her maiden in the Spring Fling after finishing third in her career debut.

Dungarees Six starts in the second trial with the third post position and Ramirez aboard.
