Top Three Finishers In First Trial Head Rainbow Futurity Qualifiers

Amanda Greer

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (July 4, 2014) – Horses in the first of 12 trials, headed by trial winner Logans Zoomin, set the top-three qualifying times on the second day of trials to the Grade 1, $900,000 Rainbow Futurity on Friday afternoon.

The horses with the five-fastest times on Friday join the horses with Thursday’s five-fastest times, headed by Grade 1, $700,000 Ruidoso Futurity winner Kiss My Hocks, in the 400-yard Rainbow Futurity on July 20.

Horses in the first two trials benefitted from a tailwind while the remaining trial participants faced a headwind.

The first trial, with the top-three qualifiers, had a six-mile-per-hour tailwind. The headwind varied from five to 12 miles per hour.

Logans Zoomin was timed in :19.545, runner-up Trendi was clocked in:19.631 and third-place finisher Tempting Valor was given a :19.674 mark.

Armando Rivera and Mayra Sanchez’s Logans Zoomin was making his second career start and was sent off at 21-1 odds in his debut and 13-1 odds in his trial. The Eddie Willis-trained son of Jess Zoomin was third in his debut. He made a big jump forward in his trial with the one-half length win with Jimmy Dean Brooks aboard.

William Smith’s Trendi has the breeding and she won her two previous starts for trainer Wes Giles. The $210,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale is a full sister to world champion and All American Futurity winner Stolis Winner.

Trendi won a maiden race at Delta Downs in her debut and then had a very troubled trip in her Ruidoso Futurity trial, but still managed to win by a neck.

She was the 17-10 favorite in the Rainbow Futurity trial.

Matt Ratliff and Vicki Tebow’s Tempting Valor has been highly regarded by trainer Mike Robbins since he won his only previous start. The son of Tempting Dash overwhelmed a Sam Houston Race Park maiden race by one-and-one-quarter lengths with a solid :15.404 time for 300 yards back in April.

J & M Racing and Farms’ Jm Miracle, who was second to Kiss My Hocks in the Ruidoso Futurity, could be dangerous one more time in the Rainbow Futurity. Racing in the ninth trial, he faced a five-mile-per-hour headwind and posted the day’s fourth-fastest time of :19.706.

A $40,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, Jm Miracle easily won his Rainbow Futurity trial by two-and-three-quarter lengths as the 3-10 favorite.

Jm Miracle won his maiden at first asking when he took his Ruidoso Futurity trial by one-and-one-half lengths for trainer Umberto Belloc. The Volcom-sired gelding then made a late charge to finish second in the Ruidoso Futurity.

Trainer Belloc also sent out the afternoon’s final qualifier Eagle On The Fly. The One Famous Eagle filly took the third trial :19.815 while winning by one length. In her only other start, the One Famous Eagle filly took her Ruidoso Futurity trial by a neck.
