Ruidoso Downs Race Track has started taking full-time and part-time position applications for employment during the upcoming racing season.
The racetrack is expected to hire between about 300 people between now and the first day of live horse racing on May 10.
“We’re hiring for all departments,” president and general Manager Jeff True said. “We have positions available in food and beverage, security, casino floor, maintenance and pari-mutuel attendants. We’re searching for people-friendly employees who can work primarily Thursday through Sunday.”
Ruidoso Downs remains Lincoln County’s largest private employer during the summer months.
“Once the horses arrive in mid-April, they are on the track exercising every day through Labor Day,” True said. “It takes a lot of employees to run this place on race days and we’re a 24-hour-a-day operation once the horses and horsemen move in for the 17-week season.”
The racetrack is a popular place for semi-retired workers in Lincoln County, as well as young workers seeking job experience and some pocket money before heading off to college. Hourly wages are competitive and many positions, including wait staff and servers, make good tips for serving appreciative tourists. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Applications are currently being accepted daily at the race track’s executive offices (second floor). Job fairs are scheduled for March 30th, April 6th and April 20th at Billy’s Sports Bar and Grill from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to bring a resume that shows past work experience.
