Apocalyptical Jess took his turn standing in the starting gates this week at Ruidoso Downs Race Track in preparation for the All American Derby Trials happening this Sunday.
The gelding will race as number eight in the 8th race on Sunday for his new conditioner, Mike Robbins.
“He settled into the barn right away,” Robbins said today. “He’s been eating everything in sight and seems to be coming around nicely. You can tell he’s ready to race on Sunday”
Apocalyptical Jess finished third in the Rainbow Derby after having won the Ruidoso Derby this summer. “He was due one on those races,” Robbins said. “He was a little off leaving the gates in the Rainbow, but should be ready to make amends in the All American.”
Apocalyptical Jess has eight career wins in twelve lifetime starts, including last year’s All American Futurity. Success in the $1.5 million All American Derby could make his career earnings approach $3 million.
“He’s just a professional in every aspect,” Robbins said. “We’re not going to change anything about him—he’s a proven athlete and we think he’s at the top of his game right now.”
