Apollitical B King Impresses During Third Day at Ruidoso Training Races

Rancho El Cabresto Inc.’s Apollitical B King raced to the fastest time from Wednesday’s 12 training races and also the quickest mark from the three days of training races that concluded on Wednesday at Ruidoso Downs.

Apollitical B King covered the 300 yards in :15.782.

Trainer Trey Wood saddled Apollitical B King along with Mark and Annette McCloy’s Rocket Seis, who raced to the second-fastest time from Wednesday’s training races. Ricky Ramirez rode each horse.

The second-fastest time from the three days of training races came on Monday when Fernweh — trained by Wood and ridden by Ramirez — was timed in :15.828.

Apollitical B King, a son of Apollitical Blood, broke alertly and then powered away from his rivals to win by an expanding two lengths.

“We gelded him at the ranch at Lubbock and that really helped him,” Wood said. “He looks like he’s a pro. If he keeps on getting better we’ll be all right.”

Rocket Seis was in a more competitive training race. The filly finished one-half length in from of Knockout Chick, who scored the day’s third-fastest training-race time.

Knockout Chick, a New Mexico-bred, is owned by J. Rogers, W. Stubbs and L. Gonzalez.

A daughter of Tres Seis, Rocket Seis was timed in :15.905 while the Mike Joiner-trained Knockout Chick was clocked in :15.965.

Apollitical B King and Rocket Seis are each eligible to compete in the trials to the Grade 1, $1-million (est.) Ruidoso Futurity; the Grade 1, $1-million (est.) Rainbow Futurity and the Grade 1, $3-million (est.) All American Futurity this summer at Ruidoso Downs.

The Ruidoso Downs season starts on Friday at 1 p.m. The first seven races on Friday’s 10-race program are trials to the $116,840 Maiden Stakes. Opening weekend runs through Sunday.
