The second Chile the Kid Beer and Wine Festival presented by City Bank” opens Friday and runs through Sunday at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino.
The festival opens at 11 a.m. each day and runs until 8 p.m. Tickets to the festival are $15 and include a commemorative wine or beer glass for sampling.
“We are pleased that City Bank is presenting this event again because they are an excellent partner,” Ruidoso Downs’ president and general manager Jeff True said. “This weekend promises to be the perfect time for fans to enjoy racing and get their first taste of green chile for the season.”
Eleven craft beer and wine makers will be pouring samples of the products and selling by the glass or bottle. Participating New Mexico vendors include: NoisyWater Winery and Lost Hiker Brewing Company of Ruidoso; Sheehan Winery of Albuquerque; Black’s Smuggler Winery of Bosque; Abbey Brewing Company of Abiquiu; Glencoe Distillery of Glencoe; Tularosa Vineyards and Winery of Tularosa; Picacho Peak Brewing Company of Las Cruces; Sierra Blanca Brewing Company of Moriarty; Sandia Hard Cider of Albuquerque; and St. Clair Winery of Deming.
Albertson’s Market will be roasting and providing the green chile that was grown in Hatch and picked early this week. Patrons are given samples of green chile immediately after fresh roasting.
Music fans will enjoy The Long Run, considered one of the region’s top Eagles tribute bands. The five-man band is coming from Colorado to perform Friday and Saturday evening at 6 p.m. There will be music each day during the festival.
Chile the Kid also features a number of area vendors for shopping, and patrons can come and go to the horse races all day.
First post for horse racing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is 1 p.m.
