When are the races?

Live racing runs May 10 thru Labor Day, we offer simulcast racing from tracks around the world during our live race season and in our offseason.

What is Post Time? How long is each race? How much time in-between races? How many horses in each race?

Normal post time for the first race is 1:00 pm. This varies on Trial Race days. Races end around 5:00 – 6:00 pm. Races run 1-2 minutes on average for longer race distances and 30-60 seconds for shorter races. Usually 20 – 25 minutes to give our visitors plenty of time to place bets and grab a snack. On average 7-10 horses run in each race.

What is the Admission fee?

General admission is free. There are lower level grandstands as well as club-like options such as the Turf Club and the Jockey Club. Please contact Reservations to find out more at 575-378-4140 or visit our ticketing page.

Do you have night races?

Our race track is not designed to host live racing at night, but our simulcast options do include tracks that run during that time.

Is simulcast racing available? What time does (a certain track) run?

Please check the simulcast schedule to get the list of tracks that are running each day as well as the post times.

Where do I get Programs?

Programs are available at the entrance to the grandstand along with Circle K, Pine Springs Inn, Shamrock, La Quinta, Allsups, Ruidoso Mt. Inn, Ruidoso Inn, Arrowhead Motel, Casino Apache Travel Center, Inn of the Mt. Gods, Brewers, Win, Place & Show, Thriftway Supermarket, The Lodge at SB and Club Gas. (This list is subject to change)

When and where do I get a racing license, owner license, and trainer’s license?

For information regarding a racing licensee of any kind please contact the New Mexico Racing Commission.

What race is (a certain horse) running in?

Visiting Ruidoso Downs

Can I bring my dog? Even if he’s on a leash or in a crate??

We do not allow animals on the grounds for the horses’ safety as well as our guests’ safety.

Are kids allowed at the races?

Of course! We love having families here at the track. We offer an arcade area and have a Family Day at the races each year.

Can we bring a cooler, food, baby stroller, baby food or water bottles?

To ensure the safety of our patrons and athletes, we do not allow coolers, umbrellas, or chairs with umbrellas. Strollers or baby supplies and bottles of water are allowed.

Do you allow cameras or laptops? Is there Wi-Fi available?

Cameras are allowed, no drones. Laptops are allowed but there are no electrical outlets available. The Jockey Club does offer Wi-Fi to its guests, but the rest of the race track does not have access to Wi-Fi at this time.

Dress Code?

No dress code requirements in the grandstands. No shorts, no shirts w/o collars. No children under 14 allowed in the Jockey Club.

Where is the closest airport, hotel?

El Paso, Albuquerque, and some flights into the Roswell Airport. Directions from these regional airports. Places to stay in Ruidoso.

Is there taxi service? Shuttle?

Lyft is available in Ruidoso along with other travel alternatives. We offer a free shuttle service daily from all of our parking lots to the main entrance of the race track. We also have valet parking available for a nominal charge, which is first come first served.

RV Parks? Can we park overnight at the track?

Yes, there are several RV Parks in and around the Ruidoso Downs area. For safety reasons, we do not allow overnight parking at the track.

Do you have a restaurant?

We three eating areas available during race season and two during the offseason. Please see the dining page for more details on all three.

Do you have Fireworks?

To ensure the safety of all our patrons and our athletes we do not have fireworks.

Do you have a poker room, any table games?

We do not offer live table games but we do have a virtual dealer slot machine in our Casino.

What’s the age limit for betting?

18 years old to bet on the horses and 21 years old for the casino, no exceptions.

What promotions are being held?

We have great summer racing promotions and promotions year around in the casino.
