History of the All American Derby

History of the All American Derby

The Quarter Horse derby that is the premier derby and carries the sport’s largest derby purse is the Grade 1 All American Derby.

Run over 440 yards on the day before Labor Day, the All American Derby offers the winner more than just the lion’s share of the large purse, which has reached as high as $2.8 million. It also awards the winner with an invitation to the Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos Race Course in Southern California. (The Grade 1 All American Gold Cup, contested on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, also offers a Champion of Champions invitation to the winner.)
