Everyone that has been to Lubbock, Texas and loves west Texas- style music most likely knows all about Blue Light.
“We’re a music venue that primarily features new artists,” Parker Morrow said. He books the bands for Blue Light and selected The Dirty River Boys and Kody West to appear at “Blue Light Live” this Saturday night at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino.
“These bands are probably the hottest we’ve seen in west Texas right now,” Morrow said. “When Ruidoso Downs called with the idea of teaming up with Blue Light for Red Raider Weekend, we immediately thought to bring DRB. New Mexico needs to know about these guys,” he said. The Dirty River Boys feature Marco Gutierrez, Nino Cooper, Colton James and Trinidad Lead. Originally from El Paso, the band has been labeled as country, folk, blues, along with a “mosh pit” of punk rock infused in their west Texas sound.
“What we promise is a full-energy show,” Gutierrez said. “We’ve been around the West Texas music scene now since for about ten years,” he said. “We’ve definitely paid our dues playing in music halls all
over Texas, and now we’re continuing to branch out to new regions with our music.”
Kody West, known a little more for his country roots, will start the show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at the Ruidoso Downs box office at 575-378-4140 or online.
Red Raider Weekend also features an appearance by the Masked Rider of Texas Tech University who will ride Fearless Champion that afternoon at the race. Post time is 1 p.m. on Saturday.
