The first of three nights of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on Friday at Ruidoso Downs got off to a positive start with a 7.5-percent gain over 2018 opening night figures.
Last year, the first offering average was $38,352 while this year’s first-night yearlings averaged $41,245. All figures are by per horse sold final.
Heading the offering, at $250,000, was Famous Shining Star. The filly is a daughter of One Famous Eagle and the stakes winning champion producer Thewayouwantmetoo.
Famous Shining Star was purchased by Stan Sigman and Johnny Trotter from the Julianna Hawn Holt consignment.
The Mr Eye Opener daughter Thewayouwantmetoo won the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in track-record time of :20.209 for 400 yards.
Thewayouwantmetoo is the dam of champion two-year-old colt and Rainbow Futurity winner A Revenant, Rainbow Futurity runner-up Belle Helene and Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity third-place finisher Luv Supreme.
The second high-seller at $210,000 was a Diva On Fire, a filly by Walk Thru Fie and out of multiple champion producing and five-time stakes winning producer Jess Sass Me.
Diva On Fire was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC and bought by Reliance Ranches.
A daughter of Mr Jess Perry, Jess Sass Me was a minor stakes winner who was second in the Grade 1 La Primera Del Ano Derby.
Jess Sass Me is the dam of champion two-year-old filly Jess Walking Thru and champion aged mare Sass Me Blue.
The third and final yearling to reach the $200,000 plateau was Troubleshooting at $200,000.
Consigned by Burns Ranch, Troubleshooting was bought by La Felix Montana Ranch. LLC.
Troubleshooting is a daughter of Favorite Cartel and is among the first yearlings out of stakes winner Eagle On The Fly.
The One Famous Eagle daughter Eagle On The Fly won the Lubbock Stakes, was second in the Grade 2 Hobbs America Futurity and third in in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity. She is a sister to All American Futurity runner-up One Fabulous Eagle.
There were six yearlings who sold for $100,000 or more.
