SCHOOLING RACES DAY 2

Wired 440 Clocks Fastest Time of the Day in Day 2 Training Races at Ruidoso Downs

Ruidoso Downs, NM—Wired 440, a two-year-old gelding, pulled away by daylight in the 300-yard 19th training race Tuesday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs Race Track while being clocked with the fastest time of the day of 15.297 seconds.

“He warmed-up pretty hot,” jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. said after the race. “He’s not an easy horse to ride and can be hard to handle but he’s fast. He has talent that you can see already.”

Wired 440 is owned by Alberto Villanueva Jr and trained by Eric Valenzuela. The gelding is sired by Tempting Dash out of the mare Time for Jess and was purchased at the Ruidoso Downs Select Yearling Sale for $135,000.

“The gelding has been showing us that he can run,” Valenzuela said. “We were expecting that he might win his training race, but we were impressed about the way he pulled away in the final hundred yards.”

A total of 22 training races were held today for two-year-olds preparing for the start of the season Memorial Day weekend. Opening day at Ruidoso Downs is May 26th when trials will be held for the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity.
