CYBER ATTACK WINS RUIDOSO DERBY TODAY AT RUIDOSO DOWNS

Heavily favored Cyber Attack took charge early and never looked back in winning the $895,633 Ruidoso Derby at Ruidoso Downs Race track today.

“I think he broke better today than he ever has,” jockey Eduardo Nicasio said in the winner’s circle. “I didn’t see another horse after the first fifty-yards. The colt is simply amazing right now and I think he will prefer 440-yards later in the summer.”

Cyber Attack, owned by the Rosenthal Ranch and trained by Chris O’Dell, ran the 400-yards in 19.543 seconds. The colt is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Remember Me Rose by Corona Cartel. It is the sixth victory in nine career starts and puts the horse’s earnings over $1.5 million.

“He did what we expected he would do,” O’Dell said. “He does everything very professionally. If the colt comes back healthy we’ll point toward the Rainbow Derby mid-summer.”

Cyber Attack paid $3.40, $2.20 and $2.10 in front of Rock A Jess V who finished second, and Beneficial finished third.

In the $100,000 Ruidoso Invitational, Sicario V, a three-year-old gelding, held off Chasing AJ by a neck to win in a time of 19.850 seconds.

Sicario V is owned by Valeriano Racing Stables, trained by Santos Carrizales Jr., and ridden by Francisco Calderon. The gelding’s sire is Favorite Cartel out of the mare Nymph by Foose. Sicario V paid $8.20, $4.20 and $3.20.
