All American Futurity, Derby and Oaks Trials This Weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track

Trials for the $3 million All American Futurity will be held Friday and Saturday at Ruidoso Downs Race Track with approximately 300 two-year-old quarter horses competing for ten spots in the final to be held on Labor Day, September 4.

The All American is considered the richest and biggest prize in quarter horse racing every year. There will be sixteen trials both days with the top-five 440-yard running times advancing to the final both days.

Dark NME, undefeated winner of this season’s Rainbow Futurity and Remington Park’s Oklahoma Breeder’s Futurity, will be number-three in the tenth race on Friday. Ridden by Francisco Calderon and trained by Santos Carrizales Jr., the filly is favored at even-money on the morning line.

Saturday’s trials features Let’s Leave and jockey Sergio Becerra Jr., winner of this season’s Ruidoso Futurity and runner-up in Sunland Park’s West Texas Futurity. The colt is also an even-money morning line favorite for trainer Eric Valenzuela and will be number-ten in the fifteenth race.

Sunday’s races features trials for the $1.2 million (est) All American Derby for three-year-old quarter horses and $700,000 (est) All American Oaks for three-year-old fillies.

The Oaks and Derby trials features many successful quarter horses including: Ezee Money, winner of the Rainbow Oaks; Sicario V, winner of the Rainbow Derby; Hes Judgeandjury, winner of the 2022 All American Futurity; and Cyber Attack, winner of this season’s Ruidoso Derby and the 2022 Los Alamitos $2 million Futurity.

Immediately following the races on Friday and Saturday, the annual New Mexico-bred Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Yearling Sale will take place at the Ruidoso Downs Sales Pavilion. About 250 horses will be sold during the auction from various New Mexico consignors.

Saturday evening, country music singers Will Banister and Landon Dodd will be spotlighted in a free concert being held in the Events Center across from the grandstand. The show will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
