(Albuquerque, NM) Sea Pearl, a yearling filly raised by MJ Farms, sold for a record $425,000 during the New Mexico-bred Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Yearling Sale held this past weekend at Ruidoso Downs Sales Pavilion.
The filly is a full sister to King of the Tide, top qualifier during day-one trials of the $3 million All American Futurity at the Downs of Albuquerque. Sea Pearl is sired by Eye Am King out of the mare Ms. Riptide by Ocean Runaway. The purchase was made by Prestige Stables of Roswell, New Mexico and is an all-time record sale price for any New Mexico-bred yearling.
“She’s just gorgeous,” MJ Farms owner Mac Murray said. “She has all the pedigree and hopefully she’ll do the same thing her brother did on the racetrack. We wish the new owners all the success in the world.”
Sea Pearl was moved to Prestige Stables in Roswell and will be trained by Clint Crawford. The filly is expected to compete in next year’s triple crown events at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.
MJ Farms also sold the second-highest priced quarter horse which was the gelding Out Post, sired by Eye Am King out of the mare Tangled Vines by Dash Ta Fame. The yearling is a half-brother to 2022 Mountain Top Futurity winner Pick Your Pour and was sold for $400,000, which is the second-highest price paid for a New Mexico-bred yearling.
Out Post was purchased by a group ownership making up El Rancho 48 LLC consisting of Carlos Lujan, Orlando Granillo, Asulena Mendoza and Julie Shoenhofer. The gelding will be trained by JJ Gonzales II at his ranch located in Lubbock, Tx. and is expected to compete in the triple crown races at Ruidoso Downs next season.
This year’s sale reported a 9.6% increase in the total sales volume over last year. Total volume is estimated at approximately $6,259,800.
Catalogs are now available for the Ruidoso Downs All American Select Sale to be held on Friday and Saturday, August 29th and 30th at the sales pavilion in Ruidoso Downs. The sale begins at 5 p.m. each evening.
