Baby Daddy Cartel Wins $350,000 Mountain Top Futurity, Luxurie Fastest in Mountain Top Derby at Downs of ABQ

(Albuquerque, NM) Baby Daddy Cartel, a two-year-old gelding, proved fastest by a neck in the $350,000 Mountain Top Quarter Horse Futurity for New Mexico-breds on Sunday at the Downs of Albuquerque, running the 350-yards in 16.896 seconds.
Jockey Noe Garcia Jr. was the winning rider for Tungsten Racing Partnership and owner Marcelino Gonzalez. Omar Vargas is the trainer. Baby Daddy Cartel is sired by Big Daddy Cartel out of the mare Startedwithawhisper (First Moonflash). The gelding has three wins in four career starts including a victory in the New Mexico Spring Fling at Sunland Park in April.
In the $50,000 Mountain Top Quarter Horse Juvenile, Jess a Corona Dash and jockey Jordy Muniz won in a time of 17.147 seconds for 350-yards. The two-year-old filly is sired by Big Daddy Cartel out of the mare Tempt Me Honey (Tempting Dash). The filly is owned by Daniel Pavon and trained by Omar Vargas.
On Saturday, Luxurie and jockey Joseph Belloc Jr. won the $190,000 Mountain Top Derby by a nose. The three-year-old has won six times in eight career starts for owners Triple R Racing, Wallace Landrum, Ted Rushing and Carlos Luhan. James Gonzales III is the trainer. The gelding covered the 350-yards in 16.977 seconds.
Capos Train Station and jockey Belloc Jr. won the $80,000 Ruidoso Maiden Stakes for three-year-old quarter horses in a time of 16.922 seconds for 350-yards. The gelding was also trained by James Gonzales III.
