Fdd Dreams Tries to Keep a Perfect Year Going In $1 Million All American Derby Trials Wednesday
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1
FDD DREAMS
Ruidoso Derby and Texas Classic Futurity champion Fdd Dreams with jockey Luis Martinez on board will try to win for a sixth straight time and qualify for the finals of the $1 million All American Derby for three-year-old quarter horses going 440-yards next Wednesday at the Downs of Albuquerque. The trial races were moved north due to the recent flooding that damaged the racetrack at Ruidoso Downs.
“This horse has been very special to us,” owner Javier Rodriguez of Le Feliz Montana Ranch said in the winner’s circle following Fdd Dream’s Rainbow Derby trial race win June 29. “The horse rarely makes any mistakes while developing into a fantastic older horse with both the ability to break and finish down the stretch.”
Fdd Dreams is the 5/2 morning line choice as number-six in the seventh race on Wednesday. The gelding has not lost a single race since finishing third in last summer’s $3 million All American Futurity in Albuquerque on Labor Day and now has eight victories in twelve career starts for owner Javier and trainer Xavier Rodriguez. Fdd Dreams qualified for the final of the Rainbow Derby before Ruidoso Downs was forced to cancel it.
There will be six trials for the All American Derby on Wednesday along with four trials for the $700,000 All American Oaks for three-year-old fillies.
CURL HAPPY WAGON
Curl Happy Wagon, a three-year-old filly, is the 5/2 morning line favorite in the second race Wednesday after scoring the fastest time in trials for the Rainbow Oaks June 29. That stakes race was also canceled.
“It seemed like she got a little wind gust at the perfect time,” trainer Ricardo Armendariz said that day. The filly ran 440-yards in 21.042 seconds which was the fastest overall time that day for all trial runners. Curl Happy Wagon is owned by Jackpot Farm’s Terry Green and ridden by Jesse Lee Levario.
The Oaks trials will have four trial races which start Wednesday’s card at 11 a.m. Local racing fans can watch and wager on the All American Futurity, Oaks and Derby trials via simulcast at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the simulcast room located next to Billy the Kid Casino.
