Luxurie Holds on at the Finish Line to Win $350,000 Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso Downs

(Ruidoso Downs, NM) Luxurie and jockey Christian Cardenas held off a late charge by King of the Tide and jockey Ricky Ramirez by a head to win the finals of the $350,000 Mountain Top Futurity for New Mexico-bred quarter horses Sunday at Ruidoso Downs.
“We’ll need to make a decision about either the Zia Futurity or All American,” trainer J.J. Gonzales III said in the winner’s circle about the horse’s immediate future. “You have to give a lot of credit to Christian who got him away from the gate. We’ve had a lot of expectations for this horse and he really came through for us today.”
Luxurie ran the 350-yards in 17.598 seconds for owners Triple R Racing Stables that includes Wallace Landrum, Ted Rushing and Rancho El 48 LLC. The gelding paid $12.00, $6.40 and $3.60 and is sired by Big Daddy Cartel out of the mare Astica by Jesse James Jr.
In the $50,000 Mountain Top Juvenile Dyna Mo Chimes and jockey Luis Angel Flores-Garcia came from behind to win by a head over You Just Got Mooned and jockey Luis Martinez in a time of 17.885 seconds for 350-yards.
Dyna Mo Chimes is sired by Rime Chimes out of the mare Dyna Mo Rime by Major Rime. The filly is trained by Eric Valenzuela for Tungsten Racing Partnership and Carlos Paez and paid $8.60, $4.60 and $3.40.
