Wascallywittlewabbit Continues Winning Streak Saturday in $50,000 Zia 870 Championship at Ruidoso Downs Race Track

Wascallywittlewabbit, a six-year-old gelding, powered home a three-and-a-quarter-length winner in the $50,000 Zia 870 Championship at Ruidoso Downs Race Track on Saturday.

“He’s getting better with every race,” his regular rider Benito Baca said in the winner’s circle. “This is the perfect distance and he just continues to roll. He’s very easy to guide.”

It was the gelding’s tenth victory in twenty career starts and the fourth consecutive win dating back to April 1st at Remington Park. The streak also includes setting a new Ruidoso Downs 870-yard track record on August 1 of 44.43 seconds.

Wascallywittlewabbit covered the distance in 44.73 seconds and paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10 while going off at 30-cents on the dollar. The gelding’s sire is Heza Motor Scooter out of the mare Rabbits N Diamonds by Rabbits Rainbow. Mike Joiner is the trainer for owner Jarrett Case Rogers of Rogers Farms.

There were three quarter horse stake races on Saturday’s card including:

*The $50,000 Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge was won by Bad Monkey and jockey Bonito Baca in a time of 19.90 seconds for 400-yards.

*The $75,000 John Deere Ruidoso Downs Quarter Horse Challenge winner was Here Comes Candy and jockey Francisco Calderon in a time of 17.62 seconds for 350-yards.

*The $30,000 Ruidoso Downs Distaff Challenge was won by Lynnder 16 and jockey Edwin Escobedo in a time of 19.75 seconds for 400-yards.
