TRIPLE CROWN REPORT Presented by:
King of the Tide Fastest in Day-One Trials For All American Futurity at Downs of Albuquerque
(Albuquerque, NM) King of the Tide and jockey Ricky Ramirez broke sharply and led to the finish line in the seventh race today during trials for the $3 million All American Futurity for two-year-olds, recording the fastest time of the day, 21.001 seconds for 440-yards.
“He broke beautiful,” Ricky said in the winner’s circle. “The last time in the Mountain Top final going three-fifty he was making a run late and I knew today’s extra ninety yards would help. He wanted a quarter-mile.”
The gelding won by three-quarters of a length for owners Gene Bradley, Tod Bradley, Ware Brown, and trainer Trey Wood. The New Mexico-bred’s sire is Eye Am King out of the mare Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway. He was purchased at the New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale for $130,000.
The second-fastest time of the day belonged to West Texas and Ruidoso Futurity champion Political Twist who raced home to win the first trial of the day by three-quarters of a length in a time of 21.055 seconds. The gelding remains undefeated in five career starts for owners Javier Rodriguez and Ray Willis. Jockey Luis Martinez was the winning rider for trainer Xavier Rodriguez. The gelding was bred in New Mexico (but is not an accredited New Mexico-bred) paying $2.10, $2.10 and $2.10.
“We were concerned with the break since he hadn’t been out since the Ruidoso final,” Javier said. “I think he was watching for company but he didn’t find any. We’re blessed.” The gelding was purchased for $150,000 at the Ruidoso Select Sale. Political Twist is sired by Apollitical Jess out of the mare C Twister Seis by Tres Seis. The gelding has over $600,000 in career earnings for La Feliz Montana Ranch.
Dragon Link and jockey Christian Cardenas ran second in the seventh trial to King of the Tides and qualified with the third-fastest time of 21.118 seconds for Rancho El 48 owner Carlos Lujan and trainer James Gonzales III. Purchased at the Ruidoso Select Sale for $72,000, the California-bred is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Stel a Gambler by Stel Corona.
AJs Wingman and jockey Ramiro Haro Garcia won the fifteenth trial by a neck in a time of 21.135 seconds to become the fourth-fastest qualifier for owner-breeder Paul Treadwell and trainer Jason Olmstead. Bred in Kansas, the gelding is sired by Apollitical Jess out of the mare Xoom by Shazoom and paid $10.60, $4.60 and $3.20.
Envestor qualified on the bubble in a time of 21.136 seconds for owners Richard Young, Joe David Yates and Zack Stinebaugh by winning the fourth trial by a half-length. The gelding paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10 to stay undefeated in three career starts for trainer Zack Stinebaugh. Envestor is sired by Dulce Sin Tacha out of the mare And Proof Shes Gone by Stoli. Envestor was purchased at the Ruidoso Select Sale for $28,000.
Day-two of the All American Futurity trials will be on Tuesday with sixteen races scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
