Cowboys Flying Remains Undefeated in Winning $3 Million All American Futurity at Downs of Albuquerque

(Albuquerque, NM) Cowboys Flying and jockey Nestor Duran surged in front early and dominated the field to win the Grade-1 $3 million All American Futurity for two-year-old quarter horses by two lengths at the Downs of Albuquerque Monday.

The gelding remains undefeated in six career starts with three stakes victories including the Texas Breeders Futurity in Houston May 9 and the Texas Quarter Horse Association Futurity at Retama Park in San Antonio July 25. Owners Jerry Deville and Jaime Cardenas of Double J Racing paid the $50,000 late supplement to start Cowboys Flying in the trials for the All American Futurity.

“If he comes back healthy, we’re headed to the Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park,” Deville said in the winner’s circle. “We are grateful to God and our team for working so hard so that we could have fun today.”

The victory in the All American Futurity puts Cowboys Flying already at over $2 million in earnings. The gelding is sired by Flying Cowboy 123 out of the mare Cartels Lady by Carters Cartel, and is trained by Marco Chavez-Gutierrez, a winner of the All American for the first time.

Cowboys Flying and Duran covered 440-yards in 20.623 seconds and paid $2.60, $2.20 and $2.10 as the heavy favorite. Ask Her to Fly and jockey Ramiro Garcia ran second.

In the Grade-1 $250,000 All American Gold Cup for quarter horses three-years-old and up at 440-yards, four-year-old Paradise Pete and jockey Christian Cardenas scored a victory by three-quarters of a length in a time of 20.669 seconds for 440-yards.

Paradise Pete went off at 6-1 and paid $14.20, $8.20 and $4.20. The gelding has won three straight races including the Mr Jet Moore Stakes on July 25 in Albuquerque, and is owned by Stephen Harris and trained by David Gomez-Barraza. The sire is Flying Cowboy 123 out of the mare Fire Specialist by Walk Thru Fire.

The $200,000 All American Juvenile was won by Dangerous Jess and jockey Oscar Andrade Jr. in a time of 21.011 seconds for 440-yards. Clint Crawford is the winning trainer for owners Jeremy Newtwon, Bill Robbins, Renee Wilson and Connie Nobles. It was the first career win for the colt sired by Apollitical Jess out of the mare Dangerous Dawn by Leaving Memories.

Dangerous Jess went off at 14-1 and paid $30.20, $11.60 and $6.40, defeating second-place finisher Tell a Scout and jockey Ricky Ramirez.

Today’s stakes races marked the end of the Ruidoso Downs racing season at Downs of Albuquerque. The Triple Crown series will be held at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas in 2027.
