TRIPLE CROWN REPORT Presented by:

Sicario V Tops Cyber Attack to win Rainbow Derby At Ruidoso Downs Race Track

Sicario V, a three-year-old quarter horse, led from start to finish holding off heavily favored Cyber Attack by a length-and-a-half in the Grade-1 $804,288 Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

“He’s undefeated and hopefully stays that way,” owner Samuel Valeriano said in the winner’s circle. “I’m proud of the way our horse ran and we look forward to running him back in the All American.”

Sicario V and jockey Francisco Calderon ran the 440-yards in 21.432 seconds, paying $6.00, $3.00 and $2.20. It was a fourth straight victory this season at Ruidoso Downs that includes a victory in the Ruidoso Invitational on June 10. Last season, the gelding finished second in the All American Futurity to Hes JudgeandJury.

“We left in front and I didn’t see anybody,” Calderon said. “This is an amazing horse—he’s been game every time he goes into the starting gate all season.”

SicarioV is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Nymph by Foose. The gelding has earnings of nearly $1 million in seven career starts for trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. In the Grade-1 $478,049 Rainbow Oaks, three-year-old filly Ezee Monee and jockey Adrian Ramos upset the field at 8-1 odds winning by a half-length over Sweet Emylou and jockey Bryan Candanosa in 21.361 seconds.

“I’ve been riding this filly since last year, and I knew how strong she can be at 440,” Ramos said. “She has a very good nature about her. This was a nice win all the way around.”

Ezee Monee is owned by Isidoro Esparza and trained by Jaime Aldavaz Sr. She is sired by One Fabulous Eagle out of the mare Cartel Regards by Corona Cartel. She paid $19.20, $9.80 and $4.40. Previously this season, Ezee Monee finished fourth in the Ruidoso Derby.

There was a dead-heat for win in the $100,000 Rainbow Invitational between three-year-olds Rock a Jess V with Calderon aboard, and Jess Good Wine with Candanosa in the saddle. Both ran the 440-yards in exactly the same time of 21.396 seconds.

Rock a Jess V is owned by Valeriano Racing Stables and trained by Carrizales. The gelding is sired by Apollitical Jess out of the mare Rock Candy Sa by Good Reason Sa. Jess Good Wine is owned by Guns Up Racing and trained by Toby Keeton. The gelding is sired by Good Reason Sa out of the mare Mr Perrys Wine by Mr Jess Perry.

Racing action continues on Sunday with the running of the $1 million Rainbow Futurity for two-year-old quarter horses at 400-yards. First post time is 12:30 p.m.
