Dark NME Records Fastest Time of the Day During Day-One Trials of Rainbow Futurity At Ruidoso Downs Race Track
Dark NME and jockey Francisco Calderon romped home a winner by three-and-a-quarter-lengths in the 4th trial race and became top-qualifier for the $1 Million Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs today while recording the fastest time of the day, 19.611 seconds for 400-yards.
“This is a special filly,” jockey Francisco Calderon said. “After we got the lead it seemed like we were focused on the clock as much as the other horses. I was asking her for run but not pushing her. The filly has natural speed—we’ve seen what she can do thus far.”
The filly just missed qualifying for the Ruidoso Futurity final earlier in the season but is already a stakes winner having won the Remington Park Oklahoma Breeder’s Futurity on April 22. She is undefeated in four career starts with earnings of nearly $350,000.
Dark NME is sired by Hes Relentless out of the mare Quions by Spit Curl Jess. The filly is owned by TYKHE Racing and trained by Santos Carrizales Jr. The filly was heavily favored and paid $3.40, $2.60 and $210.
Two other quarter horses qualified out of the 4th race: Scream Machine and jockey Ricky Ramirez in a time of 20.082 seconds, and Wired 440 and jockey Sergio Becarra Jr. in 20.108 seconds.
The second-fastest time of the day was recorded by Trane Station V and jockey Calderon in the 14th trial race in a time of 20.051 seconds.
Mitey Relentless and jockey Luis Martinez rounded-out the field of five horses that qualified by winning the 6th race in a time of 20.130 seconds.
