$3 Million All American Futurity Features Four Fillies on Monday
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
(Albuquerque, NM) Four fillies including Tempting Lu with jockey Jose Enriquez are expected to compete in the Grade-1 $3 million All American Futurity for two-year-old quarter horses at 440-yards to be held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7 at the Downs of Albuquerque.
Tempting Lu, runner-up in the West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park on April 4, was the fastest to qualify for the All American Futurity during day-two trials held on Aug. 8th in Albuquerque. The filly ran 440-yards in 20.999 seconds.
The filly is owned by Arturo Ibarra of Eagle Pass, Texas, and trained by Omar Vargas. Tempting Lu has two victories in three career starts and will be in the number-four post position on Monday.
Ask Her To Fly, the only two-year-old to qualify for the finals of all three Triple Crown races this season, will be number-eight in the futurity and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia for owner Randall Geiselman of Midland, Texas. Jason Olmstead is the trainer. The filly ran third in the Ruidoso Futurity on June 7 and eighth in the Rainbow Futurity July 12.
Two additional fillies that qualified for the futurity are Leaving London with jockey Sergio Becerra Jr., number-nine, and Blueyy with jockey Luis Martinez, number-ten.
Ruidoso Downs Racetrack owner Johnny Trotter is the owner of Think Twice Perry, number-two in the futurity. His gelding finished second in the Grade-1 Rainbow Futurity on July 12, and won his trial race with jockey Edwin Escobedo. James Gonzales III is the trainer.
The $3 million All American Futurity, $1 million All American Derby, $700,000 Grade-1 All American Oaks for two-year-old fillies and $250,000 Grade-1 All American Gold Cup for older quarter horses will be broadcast nationwide from the Downs of Albuquerque on the Cowboy Channel Monday afternoon, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m. This will be the third consecutive year that Downs of Albuquerque has hosted the All American Futurity that was previously held at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack since 1959.
