Acrylic, Luxurie Fastest in Zia Futurity/Derby Trials This Weekend At Downs of Albuquerque
MONDAY, JULY 6
Acrylic and jockey Jacob Enriquez breezed home a half-length winner during trials for the $350,000 Zia Futurity for New Mexico-bred two-year-old quarter horses at the Downs of Albuquerque on Friday while recording the fastest time of the day, 19.363 seconds for 400-yards.
The gelding is owned by Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and trained by Clint Crawford. It was Acrylic’s second win in three attempts.
Mountain Top Futurity winner Baby Daddy Cartel also qualified for the Zia Futurity final with the fifth fasted time, 19.568 seconds.

During trials for the $150,000 (est.) Zia Derby for three-year-old New Mexico bred quarter horses at 400-yards, Mountain Top Derby winner Luxurie returned to the racetrack winning by a nose in the fastest time of the day, 19.198 seconds for 400-yards.
Luxurie was ridden by Joseph Belloc Jr., and trained by Rudy Valles for Triple R Racing, Lynn Wallace, Ted Rushing and Rancho El 48. The gelding has seven wins in nine career outings.
