TRIPLE CROWN REPORT Presented by:

CARTEL COWGIRL 123 FASTEST IN DAY-ONE TRIALS FOR $1 MILLION RAINBOW FUTURITY AT DOWNS OF ABQ

(Albuquerque, NM) Cartel Cowgirl 123, a two-year-old filly, breezed home a two-length winner in today’s thirteenth trial race and qualified for the finals of the $1 million Rainbow Futurity with the fastest time of the day, 19.625 seconds for 400-yards.

Trained by JJ Gonzales II, the filly was a first-time starter for owner-breeder Johnny Trotter, owner of Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. Her sire is Flying Cowboy 123 out of the mare Famous Cartel Lady (Corona Cartel).

“She ran great—still a little green but there’s a lot of improvement that we can do on her,” jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr. said. “I believe that she can improve for the finals.”

The Texas-bred Cartel Cowgirl 123 went off at 16-1 odds and paid $34.60, $13.60 and $12.60.

In trial-fourteen, Cyber Paint and jockey Gilberto Linares raced home a length in front in 19.672 seconds to score the second-fastest time of the day for co-owners Richard Young, Joe David Yates and Zack Stinebaugh who also trains the gelding.

“When we were waiting in the paddock there was a solid tailwind, then it became a headwind, then there was no wind at post time,” Stinebaugh said. “We’ll take it.”

Cyber Paint is a Kentucky-bred sired by Cyber Monday out of the mare Pyc Face Paint (Pyc Paint Your Wagon), and paid $6.40, $3.60 and $2.40 at odds of 2-1.

Here are the top five fastest times that will compete in the finals of the Rainbow Futurity on Sunday, July 12:

Day two of qualifying trials for the Rainbow Futurity will be held tomorrow at the Downs of Albuquerque. Post time is set for noon.
