TRIPLE CROWN REPORT Presented by:

Ask Her To Fly Fastest in Day-Two Trials For $1 Million Rainbow Futurity at Downs of ABQ

(Albuquerque, NM) Ask Her To Fly, third-place finisher in the Ruidoso Futurity at 350-yards on June 7, proved fastest during day-two trials for the $1 million Rainbow Futurity for two-year-old quarter horses on Saturday at Downs of Albuquerque.

With jockey Ramiro Garcia in the saddle, the filly covered 400-yards in 19.573 seconds during a seventeen-mile-per-hour crosswind, winning the fourteenth trial race by two and three-quarter lengths.

“We wanted to try her at four-hundred yards and she proved us right,” Garcia said in the winner’s circle. “We were concerned that she might get tired coming back, but she ran real good and keeps performing.”

Ask Her To Fly now has three wins in five starts for owner-breeder Randall Geiselman and trainer Jason Olmstead. The Oklahoma-bred filly is sired by Flying Cowboy 123 out of the mare Ask The Question (Teller Cartel). She paid $2.80, $2.10 and $2.10.

In the thirteenth trial, Heatseeker V and jockey Francisco Calderon overcame early trouble to qualify for the finals in 19.594 seconds for 400-yards.

The gelding gives owner Sammy Valeriano a chance to sweep the first two quarter horse Triple Crown races of the season with a victory in the finals on Sunday, July 12. Valeriano’s Highly Lethal V won the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity but did not participate in the Rainbow trials. Valeriano opted to rest Highly Lethal V until the All American Futurity trials later this summer.

“Today we got crushed the first hundred yards so I stayed chilly on him until a hole opened,” jockey Francisco Calderon said. “He went through that hole we were waiting for and ended up running big. That cost him a lot of time.”

Heatseeker V is sired by Apollitical Jess out of the mare Thewayyouwantmetoo (Mr Eye Opener). The gelding paid $2.40, $2.20 and $2.10 for trainer Raymond Valerio.

Ruidoso Downs Racetrack owner Johnny Trotter will be double-entered in the Rainbow final. Think Twice Perry and jockey Christian Cardenas qualified in the twelfth trial on Saturday, and his filly Cartel Cowgirl 123 was top-qualifier on Friday. Downs of Albuquerque owner Paul Blanchard is co-owner of Crash for Kash which also qualified for the final in today’s eleventh trial race.
