Ask Her To Fly Fastest During Day-One Trials Of $1 Million Ruidoso Futurity at Downs of ABQ

(Albuquerque, NM) Ask Her To Fly, a two-year-old filly, surprised connections

with a speedy race-six victory during trials for the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity Friday at the Downs of Albuquerque.

“None of us expected that out of the filly,” Trainer Jason Olmstead said. “That was her third start with a maiden win already but she’s still a little green. That was an excellent time.” Olmstead pointed out that Ask Her To Fly is small in stature—barely fifteen hands and weighs approximately 900 pounds.

“When we arrived at the paddock with the filly, the paddock judge asked me if she could see over the stall wall,” Jason grinned. “I guess she got the last laugh today.”

Ask Her To Fly covered the 350-yards in 17.120 seconds with a 101-speed index for owner and breeder Randall Geiselman. The Oklahoma-bred filly was raised at Royal Vista Ranch and Ramiro Garcia was the winning rider.

The filly paid $17.00, $6.60 and $5.60. Ask Her To Fly defeated AJ Invictus Player and jockey Jacob Enriquez by one-and-a-quarter lengths. Both horses qualified to race in the June 7 Ruidoso Futurity final.

Other horses to qualify for the final on Friday include: Happy Flying Bird and jockey Gabriel Medrano, winner of race twelve; Tell a Scout and jockey Ricky Ramirez in race thirteen; and Heartseeker V, winner of race four.

Day-two of trials for the Ruidoso Futurity will be held on Saturday with thirteen races scheduled to begin at Noon.
