FDD Dreams Wins Grade-1 Ruidoso Derby, Tops Million Mark in Earnings for La Feliz Montana Ranch and Javier Rodriguez

(Ruidoso Downs, NM) FDD Dreams and jockey Luis Martinez broke sharply and left the field behind to win the $850,000 (est.) Ruidoso Derby at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack today.

The three-year-old gelding, owned by Javier Rodriguez and La Feliz Montana Ranch, covered the 400-yard course in 19.605 seconds. It was a fourth straight win for the gelding that topped career earnings of over $1.2 million.

“We’re all very excited,” Javier said in the winner’s circle. “If everything comes out alright we’ll see him again in the (Rainbow) Derby trials.”

FDD Dreams was heavily favored in the Ruidoso final at fifty-cents on the dollar, paying $3.00, $2.20 and $2.20. The gelding has seven wins in eleven career starts including a victory in the Texas Classic Futurity last fall at Lone Star Park.

FDD Dreams is sired by FDD Dynasty out of the mare Treasured Dreams by Apollitical Jess. He was bred in New Mexico by La Feliz Montana Ranch.

In the $100,000 Ruidoso Invitational, Holy Pete and jockey Ali Rivera scurried home a winner in a time of 19.633 seconds to win his first-ever stakes race for owner Zane Ziehne and trainer John Stinebaugh. The victory was by a half-length.

Holy Pete paid $10.80, $5.20 and $3.20. The gelding is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Suze Returns by High Rate of Return. Today’s win was a fifth in nine career starts for Holy Pete.

Racing continues on Sunday at Ruidoso Downs with the running of the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity and $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile. First post is 1 p.m. on Sunday.
