Electrifying Cowboy Fastest in Ruidoso Derby Trials Today at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack

Electrifying Cowboy (Flying Cowboy 123-Corona Carmelita) showed powerful speed in the ninth trial race today to record the fastest qualifying time of the day, 19.759 seconds for 400-yards, during trials for the $830,000 Ruidoso Derby.

            “We’re blessed to have purchased this horse,” co-owner Marcelino Gonzales said in the winner’s circle. “I found the horse at Paragon Farms and made a partnership with Ronald Sugamosto. We’re very fortunate.”

           The colt won by four-and-a-half-lengths over the field with jockey Luis Angel Flores-Garcia aboard for trainer Ramon Mendoza. It was the fourth consecutive win that includes a victory in the La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs last fall. Electrifying Cowboy paid $5.20, $3.20 and $2.80.

            Other quarter horses that qualified for the June 7th final included:

            FDD Dreams (FDD Dynasty-Treasured Dreams) for La Feliz Montana Ranch and trainer Xavier Rodriguez, winning the seventh trial in 19.839 seconds.

            Hardtokatch (Tempting Dash-Hardtoget) for JSM Quarter Horses, won the fourth trial in 19.870 seconds. Christian Alcala is the trainer. Little Vaquero (Flying Cowboy 123-Lethal Lil) qualified in the same race with a time of 19.937 seconds for La Feliz Montana Ranch, along with Eagle Aye (One Famous Eagle-Miss Aguilar) for Marcelino Gonzalez and Heysol Howlet, and trainer Ramon Mendoza in 20.064 seconds.

Stetsonn (Jess Good Candy-Stella Lou), was the winner of the sixth trial for owners G.R. and Shaena Carter in a time of 19.905 seconds. Dean Frey is the trainer. Daou (FDD Dynasty-Donelli) also qualified in the same race for owner Sue May and trainer Fred Danley with a time of 19.933 seconds.

            KJ Born To Be Wild (Apollitical Jess-KJ Mustang Sally) won the fifth trial to qualify in 20.005 seconds for owners John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares and trainer Wes Giles. Lethal Cowboy 123 (Flying Cowboy 123-Pretty Lethal) won the eighth trial for owner Caliche Walls Venture and trainer Marc Jungers.

            Cartel Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Famous Cartel) won the first trial to qualify in a time of 20.044 seconds for owner Johnny Trotter and trainer Chris O’Dell.
